Thousands of fans participated on Saturday evening in Kiel celebrated the first promotion to the Bundesliga in the history of Holstein Kiel. After the 1-1 (1-0) draw in the top match of the second division against Fortuna Düsseldorf, numerous motorcades drove from the Holstein Stadium to the city center. Fireworks were set off above the arena. The players celebrated on the field and in the main stand with the many supporters who rushed onto the field immediately after the final whistle.

“That’s excellent. “That is excellent, because no one had us on their radar,” says outgoing sports director Uwe Stöver at Sport1.

Coach Marcel Rapp further said: “It is indescribable when you experience the atmosphere in the stadium and in the city. Excellent. And I also think we deserved to be promoted.”

In 2018 and 2021, the team from Kiel lost in the promotion relegation to VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Köln. Next season the “Storks” will be the first Bundesliga club in the history of Schleswig-Holstein. ‘The club deserves it. He came close twice. There has always been continuous work here – even before my time,” says Rapp, who has been a trainer in Kiel since October 2021.
