The Dallas Cowboys have a special talent in Micah Parsons.

An explosive defensive player, he’s got a great nose for the opposing quarterback and disrupts everything around the offense.

Nonetheless, he also seems to be a man of many talents, and he wants to put all of them on display on the football field.

On top of being a versatile linebacker-edge defender, he also wants to be the team’s kickoff returner.

Recently, Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel revealed on The Ross Tucker Podcast that Parsons has actually lobbied to be the team’s kickoff returner (via ProFootballTalk):

“You know Micah. He has lobbied me in the past to just be the primary kickoff returner,” Fassel said. “I’m like, ‘Micah, that’s a question you’ve got to go a little further up than me on that one.’ But would I love to see him back there? Absolutely, because he would be fantastic. He would catch it and he’d run wild and he’d probably get incredible yards. But that ain’t going to happen. I’m aware of that.”

Fassel believes he could do an outstanding job, but he also admits that the decision is not up to him, and the guys who make those calls definitely don’t want to see their star defensive player putting his body in harm’s way.

The assistant coach believes Parsons would be great in kickoff coverage, especially under the new set of rules.

Once again, he’s just too valuable for this team to risk injury on special teams.

Also, even though he’s explosive and quick, Parsons isn’t exactly the strongest guy out there, and some believe he could benefit from bulking up so he could endure the physicality of his position a little better throughout the course of a full season.

He’s looked gassed out at the end of the year in every season, so perhaps he would be better off focusing on mastering his craft at what he already does very well instead of adding more to his repertoire.
