The last NBA draft had at least three potential franchise players at the top.

Victor Wembanyama was the clear-cut favorite to be taken No. 1 overall, as it eventually happened, but it seemed like Brandon Miller and Scoot Henderson weren’t that far off.

Wembanyama had one of the greatest rookie seasons in NBA history, while Miller was solid and Henderson struggled.

Now, scouts aren’t so optimistic about the upcoming edition.

As a matter of fact, an unnamed NBA executive just told NBA insider Jeff Goodman that this is an absolutely awful class, going as far as to say that this is the kind of class that could get whoever gets the No. 1 pick fired.

There’s no consensus on a clear-cut best player in this class, and it’s been like that for months now.

Some have gone back and forth between Zaccharie Risacher and Cody Williams, but no player seems to stand out from the rest of the pack as of now.

Of course, teams and scouts will be higher on prospects as we approach the time of the draft, but on the surface, this is the weakest class we’ve seen in years.

Perhaps, whoever gets the No. 1 pick would choose to trade it instead and play it safely, hoping that the following classes aren’t as underwhelming as this one.

Also, the fact that Bronny James is projected to be a second-round pick — or even go undrafted — in one of the weakest classes ever speaks volumes of whether he’s an NBA-caliber player at this point in time.
