HAMBURG. The president of the World Islamic Research Center, Susanne Schröter, has the federal government ahead of the Islamist demonstration in Hamburg was heavily criticized a week ago. Instead of taking the social danger posed by fundamentalist Muslims seriously, “they have devoted themselves exclusively to the ‘fight against the right,'” Schröter told Austrian broadcaster Servus TV on Sunday. While at the large rallies against right-wing extremism following the alleged “Correction revelations” earlier this year, government politicians also spread the sentiment that “every self-respecting democrat should take part in the demonstration”, it was “completely different to the demonstration against caliphate”.
On April 27, more than 1,000 people took part in an Islamist demonstration in Hamburg, complaining about alleged Islamophobia in Germany and calling for a caliphate. According to Hamburg’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the person who recorded the demonstration is close to the “Muslim Interaktiv” group, which is classified as definitely extremist. Many politicians have now called for “Muslim Interactive” to be banned.

About 800 people turned up at the next counter-demonstration in the Hanseatic city last weekend, although organizers had expected up to 3,000 participants. Schröter also blamed Hamburg’s governing parties, the SPD and the Greens, for this. Neither Hamburg’s SPD mayor Peter Chencher nor his Green deputy Katharina Fegebank were present – unlike a demonstration against right-wing extremism where the entire state government was present. For Schröter, this is no accident, but “the result of an ideology” that glorifies Islamist activities and “has even been suspected of being racist or even far-right extremist.”

Meanwhile, the group “Muslim Interaktiv” has again called for a demonstration in Hamburg next Saturday. Organizers want to “verbally defend together against censorship” of their ideas, the group wrote in X. (st)
