Another week, so let’s recap. Google has released Android 15 to developers, and Pixels are expected to receive the update within “weeks.” Other manufacturers are expected to announce their update roadmaps soon.
Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. The new mid-range platform is meant to replace the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, as the company apparently forgot that there is no second-generation version of the 4nm chip. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 brings improved AI performance for tasks like activity tracking and noise cancellation during calls. The chip is actually similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 with a few downgrades in the CPU and display departments.
The choice of chip for the Galaxy S25 family has been a point of discussion for the past few weeks. We first heard it would be an Exynos-only affair, then two separate reports told us to expect Snapdragon across the board. Now, another rumor, from Samsung’s home in Korea, confirms Snapdragon’s win.
The Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra will reportedly use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor globally. This is apparently done to “maximize the performance” of the S25 series. The Exynos 2500 will be used in the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 that are set to launch in the second half of next year. This is an interesting twist, as foldables have so far relied on Snapdragon chips.
We’ve seen the first render of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. It’s noticeably thinner than the current Galaxy Z Fold6, has a brushed finish on the back, and a slightly different camera island. One of the lenses looks like a periscope zoom, and we’re expecting a 200MP main camera. Unfortunately, this phone is rumored to be exclusive to China and South Korea.
The IFA kicked off this week. Among the main announcements were the 8-core Snapdragon X PlusHonor holding the global launch of the Intel-powered Magic V3, MagicPad 2 and MagicBook Art 14. Honor also revealed a variant of the MagicBook Art 14 with Snapdragon X Elite.
Huawei’s triple-display Mate XT has finally been photographed in the wild, and the company later released a teaser of this.
