Cole Palmer scored four first-half goals for Chelsea as they beat Brighton 4-2 in a stunning performance at Stamford Bridge.
Blue trailing 1-0 after seven minutes through poor defending which allowed Georginio Rutter to score the opener.
However, Chelsea improved drastically as they exploited the Seagulls’ high line to score three goals in a row.
Palm scored it all in a superb spell in the first half, with his first goal coming from a pass from Nicolas Jackson.
He then scored from the penalty spot after Jadon Sancho was fouled in the box but his best effort came with his third kick.
Following a foul on Noni Madueke, Palmer curled a free kick into the top right corner of the goal with a stunning strike.
It secured his third hat-trick for Chelsea, with the other two coming against Manchester United and Everton last season.
His number of goals equaled the record for Chelsea legends Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard in the Premier League.
Brighton came back moments after Palmer’s free-kick when Carlos Baleba took advantage of poorer defending.
However, Palmer added his and Chelsea’s fourth of the game four minutes before the break, the second time he had scored in a quartet of goals in blue after their 4-3 win over United.
This is the first time in Premier League history that a player has scored four goals before the break.
His total goal contribution of 43 is also the most in the Premier League since his debut with the Blues last September, four goals ahead of Erling Haaland.
Palmer’s total achievements for Chelsea have now reached 31 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions, 28 of which came in the Premier League.
The former Manchester City player also recorded 19 assists for the Blues, taking him to 50 contributions overall.
Chelsea had plenty of chances to score a fifth goal against Brighton but held on for a 4-2 lead to move them into third place in the Premier League.
