We welcomed the standard Google Pixel 9 and flagship Pixel 9 Pro XL at the end of August, now attention turns to the smaller Pro and Google’s next-gen foldable.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold switches to a more traditional 20:9 aspect ratio for the cover display, up from 17.4:9 for the original Pixel Fold. Additionally, the internal display grows significantly with the new 8-inch diagonal. There’s also the more efficient Tensor G4 chipset, but that pretty much covers the major upgrades this year.
For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is a bit more expensive.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro isn’t here yet, it’s set to launch on September 16 (Monday). While it’s not the smallest flagship on the market (both the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 Pro are smaller), it packs a punch with 48MP 113mm periscope and 48MP ultrawide cameras, as well as a 42MP ultrawide selfie camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is noticeably cheaper than the Pixel and will have the same 7 years of support (the Z Fold6 does too). However, the S24 has half the RAM capacity, a smaller 4,000mAh battery, and less impressive cameras – 10MP 3x tele and 12MP ultrawide.
Note that the Pixel 9 Pro comes with a free storage upgrade. Additionally, Amazon offers extra credit as a bonus when trading in an old device.
This also applies to the Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL, both of which get a free storage upgrade and trade-in bonus.
The Google Pixel Watch 3 will start shipping on Tuesday. This generation comes in a 41mm size like the first two, but you can now opt for a larger 45mm model as well — in addition to increasing the screen size from 1.2” to 1.4”, you also get a larger 420mAh battery (up from 307mAh).
Finally, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 deserve a mention – the new Tensor A1 chipset promises twice the noise cancellation of the original Pros. However, they won’t be released until later this month, so we’ll have to revisit them.
