The memorial service took place near the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The joint appearance came after sources close to the Duke confirmed he would not be attending the event due to security concerns in the UK.
“Harry and William were both present at the memorial,” the source said. “They sat apart and did not appear to speak to each other during the service.
Reverend Dan Tansey admitted he was surprised to see William and Harry at the service, which was attended by around 300 people.
He told MailOnline: “The memorial service was yesterday. [Thursday]. The private funeral took place earlier in the week with only [close] family.”
Describing the vision of the separated brothers, Reverend Tansey said, “Yes, it was a great surprise to me.”
The vicar also said he did not remember Harry and William talking at the reception after the service, but said there were “lots of family and friends speaking to them”.
“Everyone is hoping that there might be some kind of intervention from Jane or Charles [Spencer] which I hope will bring them back.
“It will take some time, but it seems like a possibility.”
Lord Robert Fellowes was married to Lady Jane Spencer, sister of the late Princess Diana, for more than 40 years. The couple had three children together.
A source revealed that while the Duke’s friends in the UK are keen to spend more time with him, the requirement to give 28 days’ notice before arriving in the country restricts his visits to special occasions or public events planned well in advance.
The source added that the situation had gotten so bad that Harry was worried he would miss his uncle’s funeral because his team had to notify the Home Office 28 days in advance of his plans to visit the UK to put in place an appropriate security plan.
However, it is understood that Harry could fly to the UK at any time, as long as he takes his own security measures.
“Harry had no plans to visit the UK this summer, so when something last minute happens, like a funeral, it becomes a very difficult situation to deal with,” the source said.
“The Home Office always needs 28 days’ notice to organise its security team, but that doesn’t stop you coming to the UK without their help.”
The news comes amid reports that Prince William and Prince Harry will not meet in person in New York in September, despite both having events scheduled in the city at the same time.
According to a well-informed source, The Prince of Wales has decided not to attend the Earthshot Innovation Summit is scheduled to take place at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan on September 24 and will likely feature a video message.

Prince Harry and Prince William have not been seen together in the UK since 2023, when they attended the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The brothers first fell out around Christmas 2018, when Harry reportedly told William he was not doing enough to include Meghan in the Royal Family.
However, things came to a head in 2020 when the Duke and his wife, Meghan Marklestopped working as royalty and moved to the United States.
The move abroad was quickly followed by the release of the memoir “Finding Freedom,” which the couple supported.
This was quickly followed by an interview with Oprah Winfrey, where the couple made a series of accusations against the Royal Family.
Soon after came the couple Netflix documentary ‘Harry & Meghan’ and the now infamous release of Harry’s autobiography, Spare.
In the fairy tale, Harry made a number of revelations about his brother, including that he pushed him to the ground during a fight.
Harry also revealed details of a dispute between Meghan and the Princess of Wales over bridesmaids’ dresses – which reportedly left both women in tears.
Since moving to the United States, the Sussexes have made very few visits to the UK.
The Duke of Sussex visited the UK to see his father, King Charles, in February this year and again for the Invictus Games in May. However, the Duke was unable to meet any members of his family during the latest trip due to a “diary conflict”.
Meghan has not been seen in the UK since the late Queen’s funeral in 2022.
