Dresden: Three more suspects have been identified after the attack on Matthias Ecke

After the attack on SPD MEP Matthias Ecke in Dresden Three more suspects have been identified. The apartments of the accused, aged 17 and 18, were searched on Sunday, the State Criminal Police Office in Dresden announced. The evidence was seized and is now being assessed.

Another 17-year-old had already surrendered to the police on Sunday night. During the investigation, two additional suspects were initially identified. Their apartments were searched early Sunday afternoon by order of the Dresden District Court. A fourth suspect was identified on Sunday, whose apartment was also searched late at night.

Matthias Ecke had to undergo emergency surgery

The Saxon SPD’s leading candidate for the European elections, Matthias Ekke, was hanging campaign posters in the Striezen district of Dresden on Friday night when he was viciously attacked by unknown people. According to earlier findings, four youths beat him – so hard that the 41-year-old was seriously injured and had to be hospitalized the same night.

The group had allegedly previously attacked a 28-year-old man who was putting up campaign posters for the Greens.
