  • Reports suggested the 38-year-old had signed a new contract with the WWE
  • Drew McIntyre has not reached an agreement over a contract extension
  • His existing contract had time added on after he missed a few months of action

Contrary to recent reports, Drew McIntyre has not signed a new contract with WWE.

The Scot, who has a world title shot against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 in April, has been talking to WWE about re-signing for close to a year, but no deal has yet to be agreed.

His original contract was set to run-out before WrestleMania, but the company tacked more time back on to his current deal after he missed a few months of action last year.

That will see McIntyre through WrestleMania in Philadelphia, but no new agreement has been reached.

Sources tell MailSport that talks aren’t close to being finalised, though they are ongoing.

A big point of contention previously had been how McIntyre would be used. Now that he is arguably on the run of his career, the former two-time world champion is much happier with his creative.

McIntyre earned himself a world heavyweight title shot at the upcoming WrestleMania showpiece by winning the six-man Elimination Chamber Match in Perth, Australia.

He outlasted Kevin Owens, Bobby Lashley, Logan Paul and LA Knight in the knockout contest before pinning WWE legend Randy Orton to claim a stunning victory.

Victory gave him the chance to troll CM Punk over reaching his first-ever WrestleMania event, but there was initial concern McIntyre might not be fit for the event.

The 38-year-old revealed he had suffered an injury to his eardrum in the elimination chamber, telling WWE’s The Bump: ‘I said I would do whatever it takes, not just for me, but for everybody else.

‘Every superplex, every dive off the cage, [and] every powerbomb in the back of my neck was worth it. I said I’d go through any obstacle. I pushed Cody to finish his story, that’s what the fans wanted. Pushed Seth [Rollins] to stop being selfish.

‘Some people are like, ‘It’s just so you can get Seth at WrestleMania.’ Yeah, I just had to beat AJ Styles [in a qualifying match], and I just had to put myself through hell while jet lagged, while this eardrum appears to be burst. Worth it.

‘I did it for each and every one of you. We’re so close, so close. And at WrestleMania, we finish our own story and I finally get my moment,’ he added.
