Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard are all alongside Lee Carsley as candidates to become England manager, according to reports.
The Football Association is in the process of appointing a new England manager following the resignation of long-serving manager Gareth Southgate this summer.
According to The telegraphNewcastle’s Howe, former Brighton and Chelsea boss Potter and former Chelsea and Everton boss Lampard are all in the running, as is current caretaker boss Carsley.
The report also claims that some sources say the FA still sees the Manchester City manager and serial winner Pep Guardiola like the meeting of dreams.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will remain at the Etihad beyond the end of his contract, which expires this season.
Carsley, who is seen as the current favourite, was promoted from the under-21s following Southgate’s departure following England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2016 final.
It is the same route Southgate took to secure a full-time first-team job in 2016, when he became permanent manager after guiding the Three Lions to 2018 World Cup qualification.
Carsley arguably has a more impressive CV, having led the Under-21s to victory at the European Championship last summer.
Many of those players are now in the first team, including Antony Gordon, Cole Palmer and Angel Gomes.
He also made a perfect start in caretaker charge, securing two 2-0 wins in the Nations League, first against Ireland and then against Finland.
talkSPORT.com readers believe Carsley should be given the role full-time.
Despite this, the FA are not stopping their search for a permanent replacement for Southgate.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was tipped to take over the role but has ruled out the possibility.
Meanwhile, former Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has taken over as United States manager ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Carsley was in charge for six games.
That means he will still face Greece and Finland in October before playing Greece and Ireland in November.
The FA’s aim is to have a permanent boss in place by the start of 2026 World Cup qualifying in March.
After this month’s games, Carsley said: “It’s been a good week. Like all these things, when you have such a big build-up, you play it out in your mind and imagine what it’s going to be like.
“It definitely couldn’t have been better in terms of the way the players responded to some of the concepts we tried to implement. The way the new players got along with the old ones. It was a positive camp all around.”
“From a confidence point of view, I’ve shown I can do it or we’ve shown we can do it as a team. I said in the first press conference we had that I feel like a pair of hands and I think we’ve shown that.
“It’s built well for the next camp. Squad selection starts almost immediately with games on Saturday and Sunday. You move pretty quickly into that now, so there’s no rest.”
