Everton Football Club has already received a 10-point deduction from the Premier League for breaching financial rules. The club is currently awaiting feedback on its latest set of accounts. The Premier League imposed this severe sanction on Everton in November, which the club described as unfair and launched an appeal against. The appeal board is expected to hear their case before the end of the 2023/24 season. However, Everton will find out about any breaches in their latest accounts much sooner, as the Premier League will inform them and the other clubs by January 15.

According to reports, Everton and Nottingham Forest are the two clubs most at risk of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in their latest accounts. The Times has highlighted this potential risk.

The Liverpool Echo has reported that Everton could potentially face a double punishment from the Premier League for the same issue. This is because the latest accounts cover a time period that has already been investigated. Everton hopes that their transparency and different approach in recent transfer windows will be taken into consideration. However, they could find themselves fighting on two fronts soon.

In December, Everton lodged an appeal with the Premier League’s Judicial Panel against the 10-point deduction. An Appeal Board will be appointed to hear the case. Murray Rosen KC, who appointed the three-person board for the initial hearing, will also appoint a judicial panel of 15 to 20 members for the appeal.

The original statement from the Premier League stated that Everton admitted to breaching Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSRs) for the period ending Season 2021/22. However, the extent of the breach was in dispute. After a five-day hearing, the Commission determined that Everton’s PSR Calculation resulted in a loss of £124.5m, exceeding the permitted threshold of £105m. As a result, a 10-point deduction was imposed as a sporting sanction.

The Everton Fan Advisory Board (FAB) has expressed concerns about the impact of the Premier League’s punishment on fans. FAB’s chair, Dave Kelly, stated that the penalty directly affects supporters who have no influence over the club’s management. He also highlighted the potential risks to the community and the benefits that the new stadium development could bring.

In conclusion, Everton is currently facing the consequences of breaching financial rules with a 10-point deduction. The club is awaiting feedback on its latest accounts and is also appealing the Premier League’s decision. There is a possibility of facing a double punishment for the same issue. The Everton Fan Advisory Board has raised concerns about the impact on fans and the community.
