Anthony Martial has done himself “no justice” in his Man United career.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie blasted the forward for underperforming at Old Trafford and having “no fight”.

The Frenchman signed a five-year deal at the club in 2019, but the Red Devils are reportedly against activating a one-year extension meaning he could leave at the end of the season.

His £36million move from Monaco in 2015 has brought little success and he has been seen as a serial underperformer for the club amid their gradual decline following Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

Martial has bagged 90 goals and 55 assists across 317 appearances for the club but has struggled for minutes under Erik ten Hag this season, managing just 444 in the Premier League.

McAvennie had no praise for the 28-year-old.

“He has no pass marks whatsoever,” he told Football Insider.

“He hasn’t done himself any justice. There was one time a few seasons ago when he did a good trick, but that’s all he’s done!

“I agree with Roy Keane. I see him talking about Martial and [Keane] loves Man United, but even he doesn’t like him.

“He says more or less the same as what I’m thinking – just like with Bruno Fernandes.

“There’s no fight in Martial. If he’s not going to fight for Man United at home, what chance do they have away from home?

“You can’t just be up for one game, you have to give it every game. It’s disgraceful.”
