Campaign group Extinction Rebellion (XR) the protest began at Home Park near Windsor Castlewith three days of action scheduled for around Prince William and Princess KateBerkshire house.
Promoting the three-day demonstration on its website, XR said they chose to have the royal residence as the backdrop because it “perfectly symbolizes an outdated system that is in dire need of change.”
Windsor MP Jack Rankin expressed concern about the potential for “significant disruption” during the event, which began on Friday. Mr Rankin urged the council to be ready to take “legal action” if protesters do not move by the time the programme is over.
But protest organizers said they did not plan to cause any public disruption with a series of performances and debates organized over the weekend.
The “centrepiece” of the protest will be a “mass assembly” where activists can debate and vote on how they think democracy can be improved in the UK. XR it says.
