THE Final Fantasy 16 PC Release Date is getting ever closer. This is a momentous occasion for those playing on PC after the game was exclusive to PlayStation 5 for a year. Now, those on PC can experience the glorious battle against the Eikons on PC in September, with both DLCs available to purchase from the start.
In a interview with GamesRadar+Final Fantasy 16 director Hiroshi Takai has discussed the decision to release Final Fantasy 16 later on PC rather than directly alongside the PlayStation 5 version.
Takai was asked if long-term fans of the franchise will be able to see future Final Fantasy releases on PC on day one. He replied, “I think it’s possible — probably even probable,” adding, “That said, the team responsible for each project decides its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion.”
It’s a bit surprising to hear that the development team can choose to make a console-exclusive release and that the veterans don’t choose to override their opinions. However, they likely have long conversations where the veterans have some sort of influence throughout the conversations.
While Hiroshi Takai claims these opinions are his own, they do align with Square Enix’s views, especially when looking at the information in their financial briefings. For example, in the financial briefing for the last fiscal year, Square Enix talked about changing their modus operandi to a “shift from quantity to quality” as they “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy.”
With recent releases like Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 REBIRTH both being PlayStation 5 exclusives, the question arises as to whether future Final Fantasy 7 segments will be PlayStation 5 exclusives or if audiences can expect to see them on PC as well. The latest game in the Final Fantasy 7 remake has yet to make its way to PC, and there is currently no word on whether the game will make its way to PC. However, since the others have already made their way to PC, it is a fair assumption that it will happen in due time.
However, in previous history, Square Enix’s PC ports have been a bit of a mixed bag. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was a huge success, that’s not to say it wasn’t without its problems. If the Final Fantasy 16 port does well, then it could seal the deal for Square Enix in terms of releasing future PC games alongside the PlayStation 5.
