With Tokyo Game Show 2024 scheduled for next week, rumors of a Final Fantasy XVI Xbox announcement have been gathering pace.
Game Producer Naoki Yoshida has already repeated the company’s commitment to Microsoft platforms following the launch of Final Fantasy XIV. Now, two different insiders claim that Final Fantasy XVI, as well as Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, will be announced for Xbox soon.
The first person to do that is leaker previously known as Midori and now revealed as ‘Ryan from the Bronx’. Hours later, Windows Central’s Jez Corden said in a The latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast:
I’ll just say that right now, if you’re expecting Final Fantasy VII to be announced at Tokyo Game Show, don’t expect it this time, but I think what you’re going to see is some Final Fantasy. I don’t know exactly, but you’re going to see some Final Fantasy, which would hint at a broader partnership. Maybe if you’re lucky, it’ll be on Game Pass as well.
We already know that a Final Fantasy VII Remake port for Xbox would be a tougher proposition for Microsoft, especially given the tighter exclusivity deal that Square Enix signed with Sony. However, Final Fantasy XVI shouldn’t be too much of a problem, and there’s a good chance it’ll be announced for Microsoft’s console soon after PC launches early this weekIt will be interesting to see how the game performs on the Xbox Series S, considering that FFXVI not only taxes the PlayStation 5 hardware but also a powerful PC, as mentioned above. Digital Foundry Analysis.
As for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, it’s unlikely there’s a true exclusivity deal in place, and an Xbox port is only a matter of time until Square Enix is willing to allocate the necessary resources.
However, this announcement should have been made during Microsoft’s Xbox TGS 2024 Releaset, scheduled for Thursday, September 26.
