Following another disappointing result for Marseille, a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Metz, Gennaro Gattuso has insisted he remains committed to the cause at the Stade Vélodrome despite his side’s inconsistency in a difficult period. In quotes captured by L’Équipe, Gattuso commented on whether he was still committed to Marseille despite their tough period with defiance: “I have no plans to pack my bags”.

The former Valencia manager’s start to life in the South of France has been rather difficult. As cited by RMC, Gattuso’s record of 21 points after a minimum of 15 games in charge is the worst record of any manager to have met that threshold of games managed.

“A lack of rhythm”

Focusing on the Metz performance specifically, the former Milan midfielder was quizzed why the performance was so underwhelming, to which he responded: “The system is not the current problem. It’s really a question of rhythm, of will, of finding an identity. No playing with a three or four defence. We must succeed in becoming more like a team”.
