A fitness fanatic has apologised after being criticised for heading to the gym in painted-on leggings for an ill-fated ‘social experiment’.

Natalie Reynolds, from the US, decided to work out in the leggings painted over her swimsuit on 27 December – and she didn’t quite get the reception she expected.

In a video posted on X – formerly Twitter – Natalie is approached by a man who isn’t too impressed with her lack of attire – and tells her she needs to leave.

Natalie has since apologised for the so-called ‘social experiment’, writing on social media: ‘I’ve made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment and I don’t expect to be forgiven.

‘I am simply here to apologize.’

The 26-year-old was wearing blue body paint over a pair of nude swimsuit bottoms, and a purple painted ‘sports bra’ over nipple covers. At the time of the video, she was also wearing a black jacket.

Ahead of the controversy, she said on X: ‘I started getting this painted on me at 11:30am and I got done at 4:15pm.

‘So, I’m sitting up for, like, five to six hours. It’s painted on pants – so this is all paint. This is swimsuit bottoms.’

Natalie then made her way to a nearby gym, where she was confronted by a man.

He said: ‘If you don’t have clothes on, you need to be out of here.’

She responded that she does have clothes on, but he reiterated that her attire is ‘not fine’.

Sharing the video on social media, Natalie said: ‘Guy in the gym presses me for wearing painted pants.’

Another said: ‘It’s seriously gross in a gym if she sat anywhere to do a legitimate workout…’

A third commented: ‘You were in the wrong. If the rules weren’t clear enough, then Gym Etiquette should be obvious to you. People are there for gains, not whatever this is.’
