THE HMD Fusion was revealed earlier this month and is now available for purchase from HMD itself in Europe. You’ll have to pay €269.99 to get it with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or €299.99 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The phone’s main selling point is its modular design: It has so-called Fusion Outfits, basically interchangeable cases that can add features like wireless charging, tougher protection, a ring light, and that sort of thing.
HMD certainly isn’t the first company to try its hand at the modular (or rather, in this case, more like modular-ish) game. None of the others have succeeded, which doesn’t bode well for HMD. But perhaps it’s the exception to the rule, we’ll have to wait and see.
The original Fusion suits will be available between October and December, so for now you just need to buy the phone itself. HMD’s Fusion Development Toolkit lets you 3D print your own designs, should you be so inclined.
All that aside, the Fusion has a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate (makes us think HMD should have gone with a 120Hz OLED instead of the modularity thing), a 108MP main camera, a 50MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W wired charging. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.
