According to the report published Monday, investment fraud was the most widespread — and costly — type of cryptocurrency-related fraud in 2023. Of the more than 69,000 cryptocurrency-related crime reports the agency received last year, nearly half were investment fraud reports, and investment fraudsters made off with a staggering $4 billion. And while cryptocurrency crimes only accounted for about 10% of the complaints the FBI received, the $5.6 billion figure was nearly half of the overall loss to complainants.
