It is one of the most famous opening scenes in film history: Amerigo Bonasera, an undertaker, had stayed away from Vito Corleone, a mafia boss, for a long time. But then the undertaker gets into trouble. Two criminals attacked his daughter. The justice system and the police fail. So he gets involved with the godfather. Bonasera bows to him, kisses his hand and has to promise to do him a favor in return. Bonasera gets what he wanted: revenge for his daughter. But he leaves the room without his dignity.
