Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford recently addressed Manchester United staff at Old Trafford, awaiting the Premier League’s approval of Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion investment as the founder of INEOS. While Ratcliffe is not yet officially in control of football operations, he has already made a significant impact that Joel Glazer has not achieved since his family’s takeover in 2005.

The Athletic has provided key details from Ratcliffe’s meeting with staff members, revealing six promises that offer genuine optimism for the future under his leadership.

Firstly, Ratcliffe emphasized that his focus is on sporting success rather than commercial success. He expressed his indifference towards making a return on his investment and made it clear that he is driven by the pursuit of glory. While the Glazers will continue to control United’s commercial power, INEOS will measure success by silverware, which has resonated positively with the staff.

In contrast to former CEO Richard Arnold’s claim that United was closing the gap on Manchester City, Ratcliffe acknowledged the club’s failures and expressed his determination to address them. He highlighted the need to improve United’s lackluster performance despite having larger budgets than successful European clubs. Staff appreciated Ratcliffe’s honest assessment and his pressure to perform, while also encouraging them to be part of the necessary change.

Ratcliffe confirmed plans for major improvements to Old Trafford and the Carrington training complex. His initial £237 million investment into infrastructure, which will be converted into equity, is just the beginning of his financial backing.

One criticism of the Glazer family has been their lack of presence at the club. Ratcliffe and Brailsford pledged to be actively involved during the INEOS era, along with Jean-Claude Blanc and Rob Nevin, who will have seats on the board.

INEOS’ communication will remain limited until they officially take control of United after the Premier League approves the £1.3 billion deal. Ratcliffe mentioned that further details about their plans and aims will be shared at that time.

Overall, there is much excitement among supporters and staff at Old Trafford about the positive changes that Ratcliffe’s investment and leadership will bring to Manchester United.
