Not too long from now, the winner of this season’s NBA MVP award will be announced, and it looks like there are three main competitors.

Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, who has already won it twice, is considered the frontrunner, with Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander trailing him.

Former sharpshooter JJ Redick said on his podcast, “The Old Man & The Three,” that by the slightest of margins, Jokic has got his vote for the award.

Most people, including Redick, consider Jokic to be the best basketball player in the world, and he put up 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists a game to drive Denver to a 57-25 record and the second seed in the Western Conference.

Denver won the NBA championship last season with Jokic winning the Finals MVP, and they look poised to make it back-to-back titles this spring and summer.

But if Jokic is the best in the league, Doncic isn’t exactly far behind.

The Slovenian superstar led everyone with 33.9 points a game while averaging nearly a triple-double, and he has significantly improved his 3-point accuracy.

While his Dallas Mavericks aren’t championship contenders, they won 16 of their last 20 regular-season games and are arguably the hottest team around right now.

Gilgeous-Alexander, meanwhile, put up some monster numbers of his own while leading his Oklahoma City Thunder to the top seed in the West, and their future is very bright regardless of what happens to them in this year’s playoffs.

The NBA is definitely in good hands with young superstars such as Doncic and Gilgeous-Alexander coming into their own these days.
