It’s fair to say Manchester United’s season isn’t going to plan.

The Red Devils are eighth in the Premier League table, having scored just 24 goals in 21 games. Only Crystal Palace (22), Burnley (21) and Sheffield United (17) have scored fewer goals in the competition this term. Erik ten Hag’s side have also been dumped out of Europe – finishing bottom of their Champions League group – and the Carabao Cup.

United fans are desperate for them to bring in some reinforcements this month, but who are they interested in signing? Here are the latest transfer rumours from Old Trafford…

Benzema not joining Lyon

Karim Benzema insists he’s NOT on the verge of re-joining Lyon – reigniting hopes of a transfer to United. The former France international, 36, is believed to be unhappy at Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad and wants to return to Europe this month.

Rumours suggested Benzema was set to re-join Lyon, the French club he started his glittering career at before spending 14 successful seasons at Real Madrid. Yet the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner has denied these rumours, meaning his future still hangs in the balance.

“It’s completely false!” Benzema told L’Equipe. “The French media don’t know what to invent any more. The bigger the better.”

Do you think Manchester United should sign Karim Benzema? Let us know in the comments below!

With Benzema still up for grabs, United legend Paul Ince believes his former employers should jump at the chance to sign him. “If Manchester United can get Karim Benzema, then you’re taking him all day long,” Ince told instantcasino.com.

“Signing Benzema would lift the whole club, including the fans. I don’t care if he’s 36, he’s a world-class player. It would be great if the club could get him – it would take a lot of pressure off (Rasmus) Hojlund and it could lift them into those top four places.”

Hojlund has scored just once in the Premier League since his £72million move from Atalanta last summer. Ince added: “He’s an out-and-out goalscorer – if he does leave the Saudi Pro League then there will be a few teams trying to sign him, that’s for sure.”

New McTominay contract

United want to tie Scott McTominay down to a new long-term contract, according to The Sun. The Scotland international, 27, has become an important player under Ten Hag but has been linked with Bayern Munich, West Ham and Fulham in recent months.

McTominay still has 18 months left on his contract, which United can extend by a further 12 months. Yet the midfielder hasn’t signed a renewal since June 2020, and it’s claimed the Red Devils want to end all transfer speculation by giving him a lucrative new deal.
