As royal fans breathed a sigh of relief on Monday, Princess of Wales officially confirmed that she completed chemotherapy in a new video, Eagle-eyed fans noticed a rare glimpse of Kate’s parents in the clip, which offered an intimate look into her life amid recovery.
On September 9, the 42-year-old royal shared her health update in a new video alongside her husband. Prince Williamand their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louisbut in a touching part of the video, Kate’s mother and father, Carole and Michael Middleton were seen to the delight of royal observers everywhere.
Carole, 69, and Michael, 75, appeared in a clip alongside the prince and princess as they played cards with their grandchildren, with plenty of smiles and joy showing a lighter side to Kate’s health battle over the past few months.
The relatable family game scenes were filmed just a month ago in Norfolk, at the height of the summer holidays, and where Kate and William have a country home.
The short clip was one of many small insights into the princess’s life and formed just one aspect of what is widely considered her most personal family video to date.
Princess Kate first announced his cancer diagnosis in March, when she revealed she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of the disease during abdominal surgery in January.
She has since stepped back from many of her royal duties and embarked on a grueling regimen of preventative chemotherapy to beat the disease, but throughout the difficult and emotionally draining process, her loving family has been by her side every step of the way.
Loving mother Carole stepped in to escort Kate home from school to ensure the children and Kate’s younger siblings remained normal. Kite and James Middleton also offered to help, as they live nearby with their families.
As well as supporting their daughter, Carole and Michael have also been supportive of the rest of the family, with Carole and William spotted at a local pub in April, and both Kate’s parents attended Royal Ascot in June next to Prince William.
Although the Princess of Wales has stepped back from most of her duties for most of 2024, she has been seen on a few rare occasions in recent months, most notably at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June and again in Wimbledon the following month.
Reflecting on her cancer journey so far, Princess Kate said: “The last nine months have been incredibly difficult for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and the unknown road.”
“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she continued.
“With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time above all else has reminded William and I to reflect and be grateful for the simple but important things in life that so many of us often take for granted. To simply love and be loved.”
The princess also added that she is now focused on “doing whatever I can to stay cancer free.”
“Although I have completed chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said, hinting at her future plans.
“However, I look forward to returning to work and taking on some more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite everything that has come before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation for life,” she concluded.
