Major update on Tottenham signing Todibo in Jan – O’Rourke Column

FULHAM

The Cottagers are poised to bring Brazil international Andre to the Premier League in January.

My understanding is that they have reached an agreement in principle with Fluminenese for the midfielder – who must now green-light the move.

The Brazillian outfit are ready to sell and Andre himself has indicated a Premier League move is the dream for him.

Interest from other English sides, like Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham, is set to come to an end with Fulham firm favourites to land him.

I’m told a move to London is likely to be a big pull for the player.

Sources say this deal is likely to be separate to Joao Palhinha‘s situation – with Andre’s potential arrival not set to affect his future.

Meanwhile, Tosin Adarabioyo has indicated he has no plans to sign a new deal at Fulham.

He could leave for free next summer, but I’m told the club have no plans to sell in the January transfer window – despite it potentially being the last chance to receive a fee for the 26-year-old.

My understanding is they feel selling him would be a huge mistake and are willing to risk bringing in no money when he leaves the club.

Adarabioyo could be key for Fulham in the second half of the season after returning to fitness in recent weeks.

TOTTENHAM

Spurs and Monaco were interested in Adarabioyo in the summer and I’m told lots more clubs are now considering a move.

Foreign sides could approach him about a pre-contract agreement in January but sources say he is in no rush and could hold out until the summer to secure the best possible deal.

My understanding is that Adarabioyo is not at the top of the list for Tottenham in the new year.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Spurs want at least one centre-back, and they are exploring a move for Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo with preliminary talks underway.

It won’t be an easy deal to do with Nice in a Ligue 1 title race and reluctant to lose one of their best players mid-season.

I’m told the French side could price Tottenham out of a move for Todibo.

SOUTHAMPTON

The Saints are pushing to land Man United winger Amad Diallo on loan in January.

They are long-term admirers of the 21-year-old and wanted him in the summer window – prior to his serious knee injury.

The deal could be done in January now Diallo is back to full fitness, with Southampton set to go head-to-head with Championship rivals and other European clubs for his signature.

Man United could be willing to let him go on loan as he is unlikely to break into the side this season.

Diallo is out of contract in 2025 with United holding the option to extend that deal a further 12 months.

I’m told there is no rush to sort out a new deal just yet but club chiefs remain confident he will have a big future at Old Trafford.

Man United

CRYSTAL PALACE

Jean-Philippe Mateta had looked set to leave the club in the January transfer window – but I’m told they are now coming around to the idea of keeping him.

The striker has come back into the side and scored against Liverpool and Man City in the injury absence of Odsonne Edouard.

Palace acknowledge that selling Mateta would be a huge risk as it would be hard to replace him in January.

The Eagles are set to be busy in the winter window after Roy Hodgson has seen his squad disrupted by injuries – including a season-ending blow for Cheick Doucoure.

Hodgson is keen to get the go-ahead to sign a new defensive midfielder, as well as a new forward and cover at full-back.

However, Palace aren’t big spenders and I’m told those signings could be youngsters with first-team potential.

Sources say the Croydon club will be active in the new year.

Crystal Palace

ARSENAL

The Gunners will have to sell players to do big deals of their own – and striker Eddie Nketiah is likely to be a victim of that in the near future.

I’m told he is likely to stay past the January deadline but a move in the new year cannot be ruled out if Arsenal are presented with the right deal.

West Ham, Brentford and Crystal Palace have all been linked with Nketiah and are all on the hunt for new strikers.

Nketiah has extensive experience in the Premier League and is a home-grown, England international.

I’m told he could cost £40million and a strong second half of the 2023-24 campaign could just increase that valuation.
