Manchester City are reportedly planning on extending Kevin De Bruyne’s contract past 2025 amid interest from Saudi Arabia. De Bruyne could earn £1million a week if he chooses to cross the Mediterranean Sea but the 33-year-old is happy where he is.

De Bruyne still has 18 months left on his £375,000-a-week contract with the treble winners yet City are hoping to strike a new deal that will see him stay at the Etihad Stadium until June 2026, as report the Mirror.

Over the summer, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr were linked with a move for the Belgian and it is now being reported that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) have renewed their interest in him again this month.

However, the Citizens aren’t keen on letting De Bruyne go especially after being without him for so long through injury. The 33-year-old missed five months of football due to a troublesome hamstring issue but returned with a bang against Newcastle last weekend.

De Bruyne equalised five minutes after coming on off the bench before threading through Oscar Bobb for a last-gasp winner. Speaking after the game, he told TNT Sports: “I enjoyed myself. It was crazy. I missed this. I had a big injury and I needed the time.

“I think it was more willpower than anything else. I know I’m not able to do that for 90 minutes at the moment. I can put in a shift for 30 minutes. I feel it in my lungs, especially with the cold.”

On his recovery, he added: “I’ve never experienced this. I worked really hard and had to change a couple of things. When you play all of the time, it’s very hard to change things.

“The beginning [when you get injured] is a big blow but I’m not someone who stands still. I enjoyed myself being able to do things I could never do. I worked hard to come back. I know I need to keep working hard and get sharpness.”
