NGOs Resqship and Sea Eye brought people to safety. Since the beginning of 2024, more than 1,000 migrants have died during the crossing.
FRANKFURT AM, HAMBURG epd | Together, two German rescue ships have rescued around 100 refugees and migrants from the Mediterranean. On Monday evening, around fifty people were on an overcrowded wooden boat called for help in needthe Hamburg organization “Resqship” explained on the online platform X, formerly Twitter. Their observation ship “Nadir” brought about half of the refugees to safety because the boat was in danger of capsizing.
The Regensburg organisation’s “Sea-Eye 4” can help with this Sea eye came and took the people on board. The day before, the sailing ship “Nadir” had stabilized an inflatable boat in distress with about 60 people on board until the “Sea-Eye 4” arrived and everyone was brought safely on board the rescue ship.
The Mediterranean Sea is one of them most dangerous escape routes worldwide. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), at least 1,056 refugees and migrants have died or gone missing during the crossing since the beginning of this year. In 2023, that number was as high as 3,155 people.
