Train passengers should take into account disruptions on several long-distance routes on Monday evening. Due to a dike fire near the railway near Gotha in Thuringia, the route between Fulda and Erfurt was closed this afternoon, a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman said. ‘Bild’ had reported this earlier. Accordingly, more than 10,000 travelers are affected. After several hours, the route was reopened in the evening. However, travelers on ICE lines from north to south and from west to east are still affected by diversions, partial cancellations and delays.

Route closed due to fire brigade

“Due to a fire brigade operation near the railway, the section between Fulda and Erfurt is currently closed. There are diversions, partial cancellations and delays of up to about 180 minutes in long-distance traffic,” the Deutsche Bahn website said.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the ICE connections between Berlin and Munich, Berlin and Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich and Wiesbaden and Dresden are affected. The IC train from Cologne to Leipzig is also affected. “We are still investigating the cause,” the spokeswoman said about the cause of the fire.

This concerns the following long-distance connections:

  • ICE trains (Berlin – Leipzig – Erfurt – Frankfurt – Stuttgart – Munich)
  • ICE trains (Berlin – Halle (S) – Erfurt – Frankfurt (M))
  • ICE trains (Hamburg – Berlin – Leipzig – Erfurt – Munich)
  • ICE trains (Wiesbaden – Frankfurt (M) – Erfurt – Leipzig – Dresden)
  • IC trains (Cologne – Hamm(W) – Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe – Gera/Leipzig)
