Nemanja Matić, aged 35, is reportedly pushing for a departure from Stade Rennais as he desires a return to the Premier League, according to L’Équipe. Matić, a Serbian midfielder, has allegedly cleared out his locker at Rennes’ training ground and even left the team’s group chat in an attempt to force his exit. Matić is discontented at Rennes, having joined from AS Roma in the summer with the expectation of competing for a UEFA Champions League spot. However, the team currently finds itself in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 table.

Furthermore, Ouest-France reports that Matić has struggled to integrate into life in Brittany. He had anticipated enrolling his children in an international school in Rennes, but such a school does not exist. Consequently, his three children attend a school in Rennes where French is not spoken. As a result, Matić is increasingly determined to leave Rennes this month. Olympique Lyonnais is currently the only club showing significant interest, but the financial aspects of the deal may pose difficulties for them. Matić himself, having previously played for Chelsea and Manchester United, would prefer a return to the Premier League.
