Newcastle United have the option to negotiate a recall for Yankuba Minteh from his loan spell at Feyenoord in January. The young winger could provide a much-needed boost for the struggling Magpies, as manager Eddie Howe has admitted that permanent signings are unlikely due to Financial Fair Play restrictions. Newcastle suffered a loss of £73 million in the 2022/23 season, limiting their ability to make moves in the transfer market and potentially forcing them to sell a star player in the summer. Howe acknowledged the challenging transfer prospects but did not completely rule out the possibility of new signings. He emphasized the value of loan deals but expressed uncertainty about finding clubs willing to assist Newcastle at present. The team has faced significant injury setbacks, with key players such as Nick Pope, Joe Willock, Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes, and Callum Wilson spending considerable time on the sidelines. Joelinton has also been ruled out for six weeks, and Sandro Tonali is serving a long-term suspension. Earlier, Howe had discussed the potential of recalling Minteh from his loan spell to alleviate the strain on the squad. Minteh has made an impact during his time at Feyenoord, contributing to five goals in over 500 minutes of league action and scoring an equalizer against Celtic in the Champions League. However, any potential recall would have to wait until Gambia’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign concludes. Minteh has never played for Newcastle before, so his arrival could have a similar impact to that of a new signing.
