Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs will not find an ally in NFL commissioner Roger Goodell – who weighed in on the ‘controversial’ end to last weeks game against the Buffalo Bills.
Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney scored a touchdown on a brilliant lateral from tight end Travis Kelce. However, Toney lined up offsides and negated what could have been a game winning score.
After multiple days of complaints from Chiefs brass and top players – including quarterback Patrick Mahomes – Goodell stood beside the referees.
‘There was no question about that foul,’ Goodell said (per Ian Rapoport). ‘It was absolutely the correct call.’
The call wiped away a moment of brilliance from Kelce – but the Chiefs seemed more angry at the officials’ failure to warn Toney that he was offside more than the actual penalty committed.

Days later, Mahomes admitted to letting the emotions get the better of him in the moment
A screaming Mahomes had to be held back as he tried to confront the officials before he told opposition QB Josh Allen the decision was ‘f****ng terrible’ in the dramatic moments at the end of the game at Arrowhead Stadium.
In the days that followed, a more calm Mahomes admitted that Allen deserved ‘better sportsmanship’ in the aftermath of the defeat.
On Wednesday, Mahomes admitting to letting the moment get to him and that he tries to be a better example.
‘I think it’s pressure of being a good person,’ Mahomes said Wednesday. ‘I try to act in a way that I’m a good role model because I looked up to guys that were on this stage ever since I was a little kid running through the locker room.’
‘I’m just trying to be a good person,’ Mahomes continued. ‘Obviously I care, so my emotions were shown on the football field, which they’ve been shown in good ways, but obviously that wasn’t a good way.’
