Steve Cooper has been informed that he will be dismissed from his post as Nottingham Forest head coach imminently with Nuno Espirito Santo in talks to replace him.

Cooper has been under pressure from owner Evangelos Marinakis since overseeing a 3-2 defeat by Brighton on November 25 and after by Fulham and dropping points at Wolves, there was an air of inevitability about his departure as Forest slumped to another defeat against Tottenham on Friday night.

Reports over the weekend outlined that the Nottingham Forest have been in talks with former Tottenham and Wolves manager Nuno. It is expected that the Portuguese coach will replace Cooper at the helm imminently.

Forest have won just three of their 16 Premier League matches this season, and although they sit five points clear of the relegation zone in 16th place, results and performances have been deemed unacceptable. Marinakis invested more than £150million into the squad which kept Forest in the Premier League last season and believes they should be performing better.

Second Premier League sacking imminent with ex-Spurs boss in the frame to take over

Cooper joined Forest in September 2021 following a two-year spell at Swansea City. He turned their fortunes around by winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs and, after signing a new contract in October 2022, kept them in the top flight last season by securing a 16th-place finish.

The 43-year-old made his name in management by leading England Under-17s to the World Cup title in 2017. He remains a popular figure with the Nottingham Forest fans, who have repeatedly sung his name both during and after matches in recent weeks despite poor results.

Nuno, 49, has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad last month. He boasts extensive Premier League experience following spells at Wolves and Spurs, although the latter was short-lived and broadly unsuccessful.
