When Dejounte Murray joined the Atlanta Hawks in the summer of 2022, he was seen as the missing piece that could bring the team to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

The idea of Murray playing alongside Trae Young was seen as an offensive threat that would be nearly impossible to slow down.

But it hasn’t worked out that way and that duo is on the brink of being broken up.

StatMuse dug into the numbers and found that Murray’s win percentage without Young is .500, while Young’s without Murray is also .500.

However, when both stars suit up and play together, the team’s win percentage is just .417.

Obviously, this is not what the Hawks had in mind when they paired Young and Murray.

They also didn’t envision being the tenth seed in the East, battling hard just to make it into the Play-In Tournament.

The Hawks have had yet another lackluster season even with the addition of Murray and their new head coach, Quin Snyder.

If they aren’t able to make it far in the playoffs, there is a good chance that fans of the team won’t see these two players on the floor together again.

The pairing of Young and Murray was a smart idea in theory because it matched two of the hottest stars in the league.

But it is proof that putting two great players together doesn’t always add up to a lot of wins.

The Hawks aren’t completely out of the playoff picture and they could fight their way into the postseason, especially now that Young is back from his injury.

But if the results aren’t eye-popping, it may be the end of the road for this version of the Hawks.
