The Oakland Athletics are, plain and simple, a bottom-five team this year in MLB.
They also were very, very bad last year, and the year before that.
When ownership doesn’t want to invest to win and instead has their mind on relocation, these things happen.
Oakland is 1-4 to open the 2024 season.
Their offense is not particularly productive, and their pitching is abysmal.
Everybody knew that.
However, not many people had them with their worst defense in baseball.
In the five games they have played so far, they have made 13 (!) errors.

According to Codify Baseball, no other squad in baseball has more than seven defensive miscues.
At times, the A’s have looked like a Triple-A squad playing with the big boys, and it’s not the players’ fault.
Codify posted a clip with some of the errors, and most of them are the most basic plays gone wrong.
What they have done with one of the most traditional MLB franchises is sad and pathetic.
Oakland won’t win too many games this year, but if they look like this night in and night out, it’s definitely a bad look for MLB.
Unfortunately, they don’t seem to care much.
They are just focused on successfully taking the team to Las Vegas sometime in the next five years.
Fans are the ones suffering the most, though.
