Munich – It should be sealed on Tuesday, the end for the Herzkasperl festival tent at the Oidn Wiesn 2024 – despite all the protests and signature campaigns. The city council members are said to have agreed in advance to the economic department’s proposal during the non-public vote on admission to the Oktoberfest.

After that, the tent in which Fraunhofer host Beppi Bachmaier devotedly cultivated culture and tradition for nine years will no longer be there. Because competitor Peter Schöniger has overtaken him in the points classification with his “Boandlkramerei”.

Festring President Knoll has been calling on the Munich City Council for years to change the criteria

An “unspeakable” decision, says Karl-Heinz Knoll, the president of the Festring Munich and co-inventor of the Oidn Wiesn. “That’s nonsense,” he says to AZ, “it’s real nonsense One old Oktoberfest It is actually unthinkable without a Herzkasperl tent.” Knoll, whose permanent ring marks the entrance to the tent Host of the Oktoberfest and organizes the costume and shooting parade and also leads the Oide Wiesn festival tent tradition, is extremely annoyed by the city’s scoring system – which is simply inappropriate for the Oide Wiesn.

“The problem has long been that the Oide Wiesn with the tents is treated as the normal Oktoberfest,” he wrote in a statement, “even though the tradition, folk singers, real brass instruments, traditional costumes, customs and young Bavarian folk music are lost. back to the fathers of the Oide Wiesn were more important than top gastronomic achievements and points achieved through long-term business ownership at the normal Oktoberfest. He has been personally appealing to the municipal council for years to change the assessment criteria, ‘unfortunately without success’.

Herzkasperl tent before the exit of the Oktoberfest: “What was in the documents was simply too thin”

Greens and SPD had only submitted an application in mid-April, to change the evaluation criteria for the Oide Wiesn so that more weight can be given to the cultural orientation. But that comes too late for this year’s Oktoberfest and will only apply to Oktoberfest 2025. “Anything else would be legally questionable,” explains Wiesn city councilor Anja Berger (Greens).

Moreover, Bachmaier apparently did not use all options in his application. “He actually delivers all the performance you need to get the highest score,” the Wiesn councilor told AZ. “But what was in his documents was just too thin.”

Munich’s CSU boss Manuel Pretzl promises: “Next year the cards will be shuffled again”

Can the permanent ring protest change the mood? The SPD declined to comment on Monday. Greens and CSU but we certainly want to agree to the proposal. “Beppi Bachmaier has been delivering an excellent cultural program for years,” says CSU faction leader Manuel Pretzl, “but as a municipal council we must maintain the quality of the documents submitted. Next year the cards will be shuffled again.”

It is also clear that Bachmaier will not give up; he hopes for a comeback from Herzkasperlzelt next year. Before 2025, he wants to “fight for every rating point.”
