Police have detailed the success of Operation Shanela.
Police arrest more than 600,000 people a year.

Operation Shanela began in May last year to combat crime at its highest points across the country.
Among those arrested were 183 people for human trafficking.
The majority of arrests were for assault with intent to cause great bodily injury.
8,500 suspects were arrested for rape
Meanwhile more than 2,500 people were arrested for murder.
Cable theft
Cable theft continues to be a major problem in the country, and City Power recently called on the police and military to intervene.
173,997kg of copper cables were confiscated by police during Operation Shanela.
Fuel theft: a big bill
Police revealed that 480,645 liters of fuel had been found by police during the operation.
A crackdown on fuel theft saw officers arrest two suspects for allegedly using a clone card to purchase more than 650 liters of diesel in a 20 liter container.
“The diesel estimated at around R30 000 was handed back to the owner,” police said.
