Buckingham Palace announced a key role in interior design as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s former UK home is undergoing a makeover, it has been revealed.
Three years after stepping down from royal duties, Harry and Meghan were asked to leave Frogmore Cottage last year.
The couple moved into the five-bedroom property in April 2019. It soon became Prince Archie’s first home after his birth weeks later.
Interested candidates can now apply for the Curtain and Furniture Upholsterer vacancy advertised by Buckingham Palace.
The one-year contract, which is expected to pay £28,000 annually, will see the ideal candidate “take on the production of a range of upholstery and window dressing projects, taking into account the latest industry methods, quality standards, design and timescales to ensure beautiful results every time”.
The ideal candidate will also be ”involved in all aspects of a project, from design schemes and research into historical styles to sourcing suitable materials and specific construction methods”.
As advertised, the successful candidate will work on a range of things – from upholstering existing furniture to ”assessing and recording conditions, before sympathetically treating, repairing and maintaining items”.
The ideal fit for the role also “balances projects with the busy work palaces” and most have a “keen interest in historical furniture”. They should also have excellent time management skills as they will be expected to meet tight deadlines.
Palace sources recently said the cost of the renovation will not be disclosed as it is “part of a five-year repainting and repair programme”.
