The sister of King Charles III (75) suffered concussion and head injuries when she was injured at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire over a week ago. She is now recovering at home after a five-day hospital stay after she was reportedly injured by a horse while out for a walk on June 23. Anne was due to leave for Canada on Sunday for an overseas trip but has now suspended her public appearances until her medical team gives the green light.
She sent her “sincere best wishes”
The ceremony on Canada Day, July 1, saw the repatriation of the remains of an unknown Newfoundland soldier from the First World War from the battlefields of northern France. The princess said in a statement that she was “deeply saddened” at being “unable” to attend the event. How including “Daily Mail” Canadian Governor General Mary Simon, 76, reportedly read the words in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Anne went on to praise the “gallant efforts and sacrifices” of the soldiers who fought on the first day of the 1916 Battle of the Somme, one of the largest and bloodiest offensives of the war.
Anne is a Colonel in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and Chair of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. In her first public message since her accident, she said: “I remember with great pleasure meeting with you at the 99th Convocation in 2016, when the people of this island commemorated the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, and I am deeply saddened that ‘I am unable’ to join you again and I send you my warmest best wishes on this special day of remembrance.”
It is not yet known how the accident could have happened
The 73-year-old was released from hospital on Friday. It is not known how long she will need to recover, but she is receiving medical care at home, according to the Daily Mail. It is also not yet known how she suffered the concussion.
