Qualcomm’s latest chipset is called the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, and it quietly appeared on the company’s website over the weekend. The new mid-range platform is meant to replace the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, as the company has seemingly forgotten that there is no second-generation version of the 4nm chip.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 brings improved AI performance for tasks like activity tracking and noise cancellation during calls. The chip is actually similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 with some downgrades in the CPU and display departments.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 comes with an octa-core CPU — four 2.4GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores, matching the architecture configuration of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 but falling slightly short on the efficiency cores (the 7s Gen 2 runs at 1.95GHz). The other difference is that the 6 Gen 3 supports Full HD+ resolution displays at 120Hz refresh rate rather than 144Hz like the 7s.

Qualcomm used an Adreno 710 GPU, and the chip supports both older versions of LPDDR4X and newer LPDDR5 RAM, but only UFS 3.1 storage. Connectivity support on the new chip also includes Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E.

In the camera department, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 can handle a single 48MP sensor for continuous readings, dual 32MP and 16MP sensors, or up to 200MP photo capture.

Qualcomm has not issued an official press release about the chipset, and we do not know when the product will be available to OEMs.
