Newcastle United could be forced to sell Bruno Guimaraes this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that there is a “real possibility” that the Brazilian could depart in the off-season.

This is due to the release clause in his contract, the player’s own personal ambitions as well as the financial regulations that Newcastle must circumnavigate behind the scenes.

As revealed by Football Insider (1 March), the club are planning to sign a centre-back, a central midfielder and a striker this summer.

However, it is believed that the Magpies could sanction additional recruitment on top of this three-man plan if Guimaraes is sold.

The 26-year-old has a £100million release clause in his contract that was inserted when he signed fresh terms in October last year.

He has been one of the club’s star players since arriving from Ligue 1 giants Lyon for a reported fee of £40million two years ago.

Since moving to Tyneside, he has racked up 13 goals and 12 assists across 94 appearances in all competitions, including a match-winning brace against Nottingham Forest last month (10 February).

Eddie Howe’s side have already been eyeing up summer transfers, with Football Insider revealing (19 February) that they and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Everton midfielder James Garner ahead of a potential summer move.

They could also make a swoop for Everton ace Amadou Onana, with Football Insider revealing (5 February) that they have compiled a scouting dossier on the 22-year-old.
