It seems like it’s pretty much set in stone that the Chicago Bears are going to use the No. 1 pick in this year’s NFL Draft to select former USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

After that, there’s still plenty of uncertainty about which prospects will be the first to come off the board during the opening round of the 2024 draft.

However, the Washington Commanders are currently in possession of this year’s second overall draft pick, and it sounds like former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is emerging as the likely selection, at least according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer (via Dov Kleiman on Twitter).

Washington is beginning a new era this year following the decision back in February to hire Dan Quinn as the team’s new head coach.

During the last few weeks, the Commanders have already made several significant changes to their roster, including a decision to trade quarterback Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks.

Howell started all 17 games for Washington last season, so his departure and the signing of veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota in free agency this offseason seemed like two big signs that the team is going to be selecting one of the top passing prospects in this year’s NFL Draft.

Based on the recent info from Breer, it sounds like Daniels has a good chance of hearing his name called when the Commanders go on the clock in April to make their first pick in the 2024 draft.

Would the former LSU signal-caller be able to help transform Washington back into a successful franchise, or would he just be the latest disappointing quarterback to suit up for the Commanders?
