Almost two months ago, the dazzling constructive and social lion of Austria married Richard “Mörtel” Lugner (91). Saying yes to his ‘little bee’, whose real name is Simone Reiländer (42), became a dream wedding in Vienna.
What are Mörtel’s first marriage results?
This is the sixth marriage for Mr. Opera Ball, who flies a star guest to the spectacle every year. And ‘the last’, as he says. But what about his first marriage? Mörtel Lugner to AZ: “Very good. Well, wait a minute, I’ll correct myself. Things are going great between Simone and me. It just fits, that makes me very happy.”

Shortly after the opera ball at the end of February, Simone, who worked as an assistant store manager in a DIY store, moved in with Mörtel. Then the wedding. Did sparks ever fly between the married couple?
There was an argument “about nonsense”
Mörtel Lugner said: “Well, we’ve only had one argument so far. It was about nonsense, I really regretted it afterwards because we’d never had an argument before. That was suddenly very unusual for me. But that’s probably part of a good conversation.” Fortunately, we reconciled.”
Then he adds: “It was probably my fault. Unfortunately, my condition is a bit difficult at the moment.” What the construction lion means by this is his health. He is struggling with two problems: “The day before yesterday I had a tear in my heart valve and had to undergo surgery. Everything was fixed with two clamps. Then, during an osteopathy treatment, I suffered a tear in the fourth lumbar vertebra.”
We’re going to Greece in September – hopefully without crutches
Lugner currently has to walk with crutches, “probably until September.” This is difficult for him and also for his wife. His goal: to be able to stop using crutches until he goes on his honeymoon. Where will the honeymoon take place? “In September we rented a beautiful villa on Crete right on the sea.”
What else Mörtel Lugner is looking forward to: On August 1, his beloved will start working in his shopping mall Lugner City in Vienna. “Simone will mainly represent me and relieve me.” But he will not be bored, because he plans to continue the wedding in October: “Then we will get the church blessing. By then I want to be completely fit and will kiss Simone often. I just read that. Kissing is very healthy.”
