Than Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gathered for its crisis team meeting in Berlin more than four years ago, on Monday, March 16, 2020, it has long been clear that the pandemic has gotten out of control. The first corona case was less than two months ago, but in some states the number of infections is increasing exponentially; Twelve people have already died in Germany from the new pathogen Sars-CoV-2.

Many employees of the institute continued to work last weekend and prepared a new risk assessment. “It should be scaled up this week,” the RKI noted at the end of the meeting. This means: the institute wants an estimate of how dangerous it is corona for Germany: change: from moderate to high, which it did a day later (pdf).
