Roma’s rising star, Dean Huijsen, has made a significant decision regarding his international football career, opting to represent Spain instead of the Netherlands.
The 18-year-old defender, currently on loan from Juventus, has officially switched his allegiance to the Spanish national team, as confirmed by Spanish Royal Decree 200/2024.
Huijsen, who has made a name for himself at Roma since his arrival last month, showcased his potential with two goals in eight appearances for the Giallorossi. Despite his Dutch roots and his previous involvement with various Dutch youth teams, Huijsen’s upbringing in Spain and his early footballing years at Malaga played a crucial role in his decision-making process.
While on loan at Roma, Huijsen has caught the attention of his parent club, Juventus, who are considering various options for his future development. Although Juventus plans to recall him in the summer, they remain open to extending his loan or loaning him out again to ensure his continuous growth.
With his switch to the Spanish national team, Huijsen will now represent Spain at the U21 level, marking a new chapter in his promising football career.
