The prequel series to Jonathan Glazer’s 2000 crime thriller Sexy Beast is set to premiere on Paramount+ on January 25, 2024. Along with the release date announcement, the streaming service has also shared first-look photos, giving viewers a glimpse at what to expect from the upcoming eight-episode series of the same name.

Solely based on Glazer’s cult classic film, Sexy Beast will chronicle the origins of Gal Dove, Don Logan, and Teddy Bass. The characters were played by Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley, and Ian McShane in the said British crime movie.

The newly released images reintroduce the characters from the Sexy Beast movie, highlighting the new faces portraying the beloved main leads, including Mare of Easttown’s James McArdle as Gal Dove and The Rig’s Emun Elliott as Don Logan.

The upcoming series is set to trace back to the complicated relationship between best friends and small-time thieves Gal Dove and Don Logan as they got involved in a much-bigger criminal world in the ’90s in East London.

Who else is involved in Sexy Beast’s prequel?

The Sopranos’ Michael Caleo serves as the forthcoming show’s writer and showrunner. He also executive produced Sexy Beast alongside Nicole Clemens, JC Acosta, Alastair Galbraith, Michael Scheel, David Caffrey, and Antony Smith. The 2000 film’s writers, David Scinto and Louis Mellis, also returned as the show’s executive producers.

In a statement (via Variety), Caleo said reintroducing the Sexy Beast story to a new generation of viewers has been his “great passion.”

“I feel so fortunate to be able to explore these beautifully crafted characters a decade before we met them in the original story. This series has been a great passion of mine for many years and I cannot wait to see it come to life with this amazing cast,” said Caleo.

Besides McArdle and Elliott, Sexy Beast will also star Sarah Greene as Deedee, Stephen Moyer as Teddy Bass, and Tamsin Greig as Cecilia. The rest of the cast includes Eliza Bennett, Peter Ferdinando, Nicholas Nunn, and Clea Martin.
