My little nephew is very upset. “Uncle Robert,” he says in a voice message, “do you know what comes after space? It doesn’t fit in my head.”
I feel addressed immediately. After all, I have been concerned with space and where it ends for a long time – that is how my cousin answered the question. Not since kindergarten. But since my teenage years.
Today I know: after space comes more space. One star is followed by the next, all the way to the edge of our galaxy with its approximately 200 billion stars and many more planets. Then nothing happens for a while. And then the next galaxy with new stars and planets, followed by another big void.
