While a standard Silent Hill 2 playthrough is expected to take between 16 and 18 hours, Bloober Team has announced that for the perfectionists out there, it will take upwards of 20 hours “to find everything the team put into the game and the things we’ve hidden for you.”
Silent Hill recently received a story trailer which introduces players to some of the game’s most iconic characters, such as Eddy and Mary. In terms of playtime, Mateusz Lenart, the Creative Director and Lead Designer of Silent Hill 2, posted about how many secrets are hidden in the corners of the game.
In the tweet, he used a series of emojis referring to Silent Hill 2’s six endings while teasing the public that there will be “no spoilers, not even via emojis.” In a series of other posts on X, he spoke about some of the proudest moments he’s experienced since working on Silent Hill 2.
Initially, die-hard Silent Hill 2 fans were concerned about the game being in the hands of Bloober Teamfeeling that they could easily do a disservice to the franchise. While they have made successful games like the Layers of Fear franchise, they have also made games like Blair Witch and The Medium that were not as successful.
However, Silent Hill 2 previews have been trickling out, with journalists getting a chance to try out the first few hours of the game. So far, word has been incredibly optimistic about the game’s early hours, with some even detailing the new content that’s coming to Silent Hill 2. Whether this means there will now be additional endings to earn remains to be seen. From the previews, it all looks very positive, with Unreal Engine 5 being a real asset to the game’s dark and overwhelming atmosphere.
Additionally, this iconic survival horror game will be getting a new combat style, which could be a positive or negative depending on the opinions of Silent Hill fans. The style is somewhat clunky in the original, and the camera angles often do the player a disservice.
The game is set to release on October 8, 2024. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also allow excited players two days of early access before the game’s official public release. Silent Hill 2 will be released for PlayStation 5 and PC, with no word on whether it will come to Xbox Series X|S in the future.
