HAMBURG. In Hamburg, a violent attack on a woman took place on Wednesday evening after a university event entitled “Semiphobia, anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism – updated forms of anti-Jewish violence”. The 56-year-old attacked is a board member of the German-Israeli Association, the suspected attacker is a 26-year-old Somali woman. “After the event, the 56-year-old and several women from the audience got into an argument, during which a 26-year-old Somali woman from the group suddenly attacked her German opponent and punched her in the face. Apparently she defended herself by kicking and biting the attacker.” says the police.
The victim had her facial injuries treated at the scene by a team of paramedics and later voluntarily sought further medical treatment. The 26-year-old woman from Somalia chose not to receive medical care. Because the police assume that the crime was ‘probably politically motivated’, the state security service is now investigating.
The anti-Semitism commissioner calls for harsh consequences
The chairman of the German-Israeli Association, Daniel Killy, demanded this Hamburger Abendblattto clear the so-called “Palestinian vigil” near the university. The latest attack is “an alarming sign that dialogue with radicals of all stripes is futile.”
Hamburg’s anti-Semitism commissioner, Stefan Hensel, also commented on the incident and joined calls for consequences. “The heinous act makes it clear that it is not just hate speech, but that words are ultimately followed by actions.” When demonstrations and protest events turn into violence, “these must be immediately banned and dissolved”.
