Spain vs England: What’s the Starting Position?
While the Spanish national team had a convincing European championship plays and has managed to win all six games so far, England have sometimes come in for harsh criticism for their performances so far. The “Three Lions” have not played convincing football at this tournament so far. In the round of 16 against Slovakia, the equalizer was only achieved in injury time after a poor performance and the winning goal was eventually scored in extra time. The British won the quarter-final against Switzerland only on penalties. In the semi-final against the Netherlands, however, an improvement in performance followed (2:1).
Nevertheless: Final opponent Spain goes into the match as favorites based on the tournament so far. In the quarterfinals, the Iberians knocked host country Germany out of the tournament after extra time (2-1) in an exciting match. In the round of the last four, they performed strongly against vice world champion France (2:1).

And: Spain, three-time European champions (1964, 2008, 2012), are already playing in their fifth final. It was not until 1984 that Furia Roja lost a European Championship final (0-2 against France). From a German perspective, a bitter memory: the 1-0 victory that the Spanish played with great superiority in the 2008 final against the DFB team. If the Spanish win on Sunday, they will be the only record holders with four titles, ahead of Germany (three). The English, on the other hand, can look back on very manageable successes in the continental tournament: they only reached the final in 2021, in London the Three Lions lost on penalties to Italy.
